I certainly find myself embroiled in problem-solving thinking from time to time.

But now, I also see what I’m doing in my head, and I know that it’s counter-productive.

Our natural system lets us access wisdom once our thinking calms down. How can we calm down our own thinking? One way is to simply say, “I don’t know the answer.” For me, my┬ámind becomes clearer and my whole self feels calmer. I’ve found that the more often I see that the answer isn’t in my thinking, the faster a solution presents itself to me.

I know this isn’t easy to do because it goes against what most of us have been taught. But it’s quite all right to say “I don’t know” or “I don’t see the answer” — and I’d venture to say, it’s the best thing to say.
